Brooklyn granny who abandoned her young granddaughter in car to gamble set free

The cold-hearted granny cried her way to freedom.

Renee Osby, the 56-year-old grandma who prosecutors charge left her 5-year-old granddaughter in a freezing car for over an hour while she was inside a Queens casino Saturday, was released without bail during a tearful Sunday morning court hearing.

Judge Michael Yavinsky denied a prosecutor's request for $10,000 bail but barred her from seeing her granddaughter, Jordan.

"Based on her lack of criminal record, history of community ties and no injuries to the child, I will release her at this time," the judge said.

Osby, who wore a black coat and purple glasses, cried as she pleaded not guilty to a misdemeanor charge of acting in a manner injurious to a child.

Her defense attorney, Dawn Martin, told the judge that she was "extremely remorseful" about what happened.

On Saturday, the grandmother first tried to bring her granddaughter with her into the Resorts World Casino in South Ozone Park but was blocked because kids aren't allowed inside, according to police sources.

The security guards later spotted Osby inside and became suspicious. So they went looking for the tyke and found her trapped inside the unheated vehicle at about 11 a.m. and called the cops.

Jordan, who was uninjured, was brought back to her mother on Saturday afternoon. The tyke and her mother were living with Osby on Madison St. in Bushwick, Brooklyn.

As a condition of her release, Osby will temporarily move in with her brother in Brownsville.

At the court hearing, Osby was joined by several supportive family members. One of them began sobbing when the judge ruled that the grandmother was barred from seeing her granddaughter.

Osby's lawyer insisted the case would be resolved without a conviction.

"My client is an active woman in her community who has never been convicted of a crime," she told the judge.
